► What can you do?
There are loads of ways that you can get involved including:
- Becoming an environmental champion
- Joining the student associations environment committee
- Doing an environmental audit
Just contact campaigns@sauws.org.uk
There are a number of different things which students can do to be more ethically and environmentally friendly. A few simple steps are;
-
Ensuring that electrical appliances, such as televisions and computers, are switched off at the mains when not in use for longer periods of time, and not just left on stand by, as this still uses electricity
-
Feed the birds - they need fat (peanuts, bacon rind...) and carbs (bread, seeds...)

-
Switching off lights when rooms are not in use, and using energy saving light bulbs - this can also save money on electricity bills
-
Bring in used postage stamps to the 4th floor of the union on the Paisley campus, and we will send them to charity
- Recycle as much of your waste as possible
-
We can recycle your clothes, mobile phones, shoes and print cartridges in the students union, just bring them in.
- Buy recycled paper
- Where ever possible, buy Fairtrade produce
- Check the energy performance certificate (EPC) of accommodation you are looking to rent, landlords have to have one (this can also save you loads of money on your bills)
Help the university to manage it's energy by making sure there is nothing left on that should be and letting Snap It Off know by uploading the photo of the light that you can't switch off.
