► Meet the Board
This section of the website will introduce you to the Students who sit on the Associations Board of Trustees. Each of the representatives are former students who have taken a year out of their studies in order to represent the Student Voice within the University. With the Exception of David "DD" Devlin & Wendy Logan, all the other officers are new. Read on to find out more.
President
The President of SAUWS is David (DD) Devlin. DD's University life began in 2001 studying Chemistry, however he left this course soon after an incident involving some ether, a bunsen burner and a fume hood. The resulting explosion did nothing to improve DD's standing with his lecturers. After taking a few years to recover he returned to study Social Sciences on the Paisley campus graduating with a BA (Hons) Psychology in July 2008. DD first became involved in the Students' Association by joining the LGBT STAR (Student Taking Action & Representing) group in 2004. DD was secretary of the group from 2005 till 2007 and began to attend Students' Council as one of the LGBT representatives. During last year, DD joined the Board of Trustees as Vice-President Publications and continued in that role after the merger with Bell College as Ordinary Trustee Paisley (Publications). In Spring 2008, DD was elected to be Depute President Education & Welfare in one of the Students' Association's closest election battles - he won by a total of 8 votes. Following an unexpected vacancy, DD became Acting President of the Students' Association was was formally elected President in October 2008. He was re-elected for his second term in February 2009.
According to DD, his funniest Union moment was in the Paisley students' Union during the infamous "Cross Dressing Night". DD with other members of the Paisley Students' Union had cross dressed to raise LGBT awareness. His only regret about the evening was that he "didnt have a ruler to complete the outfit". He was dressed as a Nun.
DD's primary role in the Union is to provide Education and Welfare support to all the students in all campuses. You should contact him if your having any problems with your degree, finances, or personal life, etc. Alternatively, if you want to get involved with the Students' Council or a STAR Group, then give him a call. DD can be contacted by email at president@sauws.org.uk If you wish a personal appointment please call 0141 849 4161.
Depute President (Education & Welfare)
Susan Ducan
The Depute President of SAUWS is Susan Duncan. During her third year Susan started to take an interest in welfare issues due to the Option 4 no one campaign - which was to prevent the Closure of the University's Nusery provision. This campaign highlighted to Susan that alot of students do not have an easy experience at University. Susan then decided that she would like to be more invoved in her Students Union and help make students lives better. She was elected in February 2009 as the next Depute President.
Susan first got involved in the Students' Union by going around and forcing students to cheer up and have a good time, as she was employed by the Association as a member of the Events & PR Crew. She has worn many a silly costume in the name of humour and SAUWS thanks her for all the work that she put in.
Susan hopes to carry out lots of campaigns this year, including brea
Sports President
Arnaud Bastianelli

The Sports President of SAUWS is our very own, "Barman of the Year 2008" Arnaud Bastianelli. Arnaud first became involved in the Association as a member of bar staff. However, after retiring from the Union's bar after a narrow defeat for Barman 2009, Arnaud decided to use his extensive talents to aid the Sports Union.
Arnaud graduated in July 2009 with a MSC in International Marketing. He is a keen football player and has been part of the UWS 1st team for 3 years. His only regret about being in the football taem is he never experienced the feeling of the team being promoted and to this day he still holds a grudge against St. Andrews University football team.
Arnaud's focus for next year is to develop Sports & Societies across all campuses. This means that Arnaud wants to expand the range of Clubs & Societies on the Ayr and Hamilton Campus whist maintaining the high standards of clubs and societies that are present on the Paisley Campus. Arnaud however is only one man and he will need the participation and the involvemnt of students in order to make these critical changes a reality.
Arnaud's primary job within the Students' Association is to be the head of the Sports & Societies Union. You can contact Anraud by email on sp@sauws.org.uk or by calling 0141 849 4160. You can also get more information at the Clubs & Societies fairs which will take place on all campuses during freshers. Please be aware that on Wednesday and Saturdays it may be difficult to contact Anraud due to club games which are scheduled on those days.
Campus President Ayr
Katie recently graduated UWS Ayr campus in July 2008 with BA(Hons) Performance. At just 24 years old, Katie has had quite a colourful professional life from running her own Theatre company to working in restaurants across the country... Since coming to study at the University of the West of Scotland she has played an active role in the Students' Council, as well as being Halls Convener 2006/07. During last year, Katie tailed her predecessor Kellie during Freshers Week 2007 and as such fully realises just how big the boots she has to fill are!
Katie has been known to take an active interest in all things environmental and is always encouraging students to remember that SAUWS exists for them. 'We are here to help and to try to make things better. If you’re struggling or in need of help the door to our office is always open".
Katie's role within SAUWS is to deal with all the needs of Ayr campus students. Contact Katie if you have any problems or comments to make about studying on Ayr campus. Katie can be contacted by email on cpa@sauws.org.uk
If you wish a personal appointment please call 01292 886330.
Campus President Hamilton
Wendy Logan
Wendy has spent the last 6 years of her life studying, initially returning to school, then college, and finally University. She has recently achieved a Degree with Distinction in Appiled Bioscience with Forensic Investigation.
She has studied at the University during the merger period at both the Paisley Campus and the Hamilton campus - formerly Bell College. She is also on the verge of achieving an Honours Degree in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of the West of Scotland.
Wendy first became passionate about The Students' Association when former President, Jason Smith, encouraged her to participate in all student issues. Wendy was asked on numerous occasions to stand for Student President on the Hamilton campus and finally gave in, in her last year of her University studies. Wendy would encourage all students at the Hamilton campus to use the facilities that the Students Union provides, as she feels her experience at Univerisity was only enriched by the time she spent volunteering in the Union. She met countless friends through her involvement with the Students Union. Students who were from different courses, campuses and even different Universities through the National Union of Students(NUS) conferences held both in Scotland and Nationally.
The Students' Asscosication will also allow you to meet new people who are not only studying your course, but studying other courses and even on other campuses.
Representation is a large part of student life, but only becomes visable when problems arise. By using the facilities provided by your Students' Association you are one step ahead.
You should contact Wendy if you wish to get involved in any aspect of the Students Union in Hamilton. Also you should contact her if you are experiencing any problems with your course or any other aspect of your life while you are studying at the Hamilton campus. Wendy can be contacted through email at bcsu@uws.ac.uk or if you wish a personal appointment you can call her on 01698 283 869.
