► Your Green Union
SAUWS is taking lots of actions to reduce it's environmental impact across all of the campuses. From increasing recycling facilities and stocking fairtrade products in our outlets to turning the heating down and changing the light bulbs, there are lots of change a foot and lots still to be done.
Awards and Leagues

UWS improved its performance in the 2011 University Green League, receiving a 2:1 classification and coming 3rd out of the Scottish universities and 39th in the UK. We performed better than many universities including the University of Edinburgh, University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University. This year we are aiming to move up the league even further! You can see our full results here. And if you want to find out more then get in touch.
We also received a Gold award in the 2010 Union Green Impact awards and are now eagerly awaiting the 2011 results. You can view our 2010 workbook here.
We are also working with the university on their Green Impact Awards, which are an environmental accreditation scheme that encourages staff and students to work in teams to implement sustainability initiatives. Teams can gain bronze, silver and gold accreditation's, as well as competing for the coveted 1st place award.
We are currently looking for students and staff to sign up teams for the scheme. Teams can be whatever size and made up of whoever you think will work well together, for example a team could be an office, corridor or whole department.
