Well look at that, the first day in office felt like yesterday and more than a month has flown by already. The past 37 days have been filled with planning with Fresher’s Week, campaigns, training sessions and much more. At SAUWS we are very much at the planning stage for the year ahead and it’s all coming together bit by bit.
This year we have plans to bring big bold campaigns back to SAUWS and I’m keen to announce that this year our three priority campaigns will be centred on internationalisation, mental health awareness and also support for students in the summer. Whilst our campaigns are focused around improving funding programme’s and UWS’ and other structures we are also putting on a lot of focus on improving SAUWS as well.
We are on track for having a mass student consultation which will allow every UWS student to have a say in what they what to improve and how within SAUWS. In the meantime though, we are currently in the process of radically transforming how students are represented at SAUWS this means new bodies, new structures, new constitution. This shake up is going to make democracy a million times better at SAUWS and it won’t just benefit students that are studying here now but also students that study here in years to come, we have high hopes that these new methods will get students involved from all backgrounds not just your typical groups of students. We also expanding on our voluntary opportunities this year as well, keep an eye out for our volunteers’ fair in September. Team UWS will also be expanding going from 12 to 18 Sports from last year with new opportunities such as women’s rugby, archery, tennis and more.
In the last month we have also entered a new partnership with the rising company Village Digs. What this partnership really means is that come trimester one a new website will be launched giving accommodation guidance and it will make studying away from home a little bit easier for UWS students. The website has many unique features and we look forward to hearing your feedback when the project launches in September.
These are some of the many things we have got planned and I haven’t even touched on some of the fantastic work that’s coming up relating to citizenship and environmental and other projects being planned for the year ahead. Yes, SAUWS will be facing a lot of changes and challenges this year but I think this can be one of our most active years yet.
Hope you’re all having a fantastic time and we can wait to show you everything when trimester one starts. For now though enjoy the rest of your summer, good luck in your resits (if you have any) and we look forward to seeing some new and returning faces in September.
