Role Description

Each year I run Dogs Trust the Musical which is a Show in a Week musical theatre project for young people and children living in regeneration areas across Glasgow. They come together for a week of intense rehearsals to create a full length live theatre show on the Saturday evening in Platform theatre that tells stories of the dogs in our care whilst educating the children participating and the audience watching.

The project also includes a behind the scenes VIP tour at Dogs Trust Glasgow.

About this organisation

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest Dog Welfare Charity and seeks to rehome abandoned and unwanted dogs. We also run several  campaigns to support and encourage dog welfare and Education is a huge part of that, educating dog owners and dog owners of the future about Responsible Dog ownership so that we decrease the numbers of mistreated and abandoned dogs in the UK.

What could you gain?

  • Experience of working closely with children in an educational setting
  • Working in a professional theatre setting – potentially can be involved in any area of expertise they have, dance/singing/acting/media/tech/film/design/make up.
  • Knowledge of and experience of working for an animal charity.
  • Working closely with a professional theatre practitioner and former Musical Theatre lecturer with over 20 years experience.

Skills/Experience Required

No experience necessary just a positive friendly attitude and happy to take direction.  I will need help with looking after the children that week plus things like organising costumes, taking registers, ordering lunches, helping children learn their lines etc….

If you have any experience with children or in a media, technical or theatre setting that would be a great added bonus and there would certainly be opportunity for you to use these skills, that would be fantastic!

Requirements for starting the role

Dogs Trust will provide PVG checks for all volunteers.
