Training and Support

On this page you will find details of upcoming events specifically aimed at student reps.  This will include information on the Student Rep Congress and networking sessions.

Through the academic year there will be 3 main networking sessions for Reps, the first of which is called Student Rep Congress.  Updates of the networking sessions will be details on this page 


Student Rep Congress

Student Rep Congress was held on Wednesday 5th October with with reps attending from across the campuses.

The day long event consisted of-

-traditional Student Rep Training for new Reps

-enhanced Student Rep Training for Reps who have attended Congress or Rep training before which includes Chair training.

-Learning Spaces workshop to enhance your knowledge and skills base when discussing this topic

-Plenary sessions on what goes on outside the classroom from Rob Henthorn, NUS Scotland Vice President Education and Bre Edwards, Director of Student Life.

-Plenary session on Student Engagement with a focus on International engagement from partners across UWS.


Further training sessions will be provided during the networking sessions, however you can contact Claire on if you would like to discuss any training and development needs.


Networking session

Netowrking sessions are a great way to catch up with your rep colleagues and find out whats happening across the university.  Networking sessions are provided at each campus and details of dates for 2016-17 will be posted here once arranged.

The next networking session will be held during week commencing 21st November at the following dates and times:

  • Paisley – Monday 21st November – 12pm to 3pm in room D143
  • Ayr – Tuesday 22nd November – 12pm to 3pm in room GT39
  • Dumfries – Wednesday 23rd November – 11am to 2.30pm in room W3 Dudgeon House
  • Hamilton – Thursday 24th November – 12pm to 3pm in room A412

During these session we’ll go over the basics of Student Rep Training (if you didn’t make it to Student Rep Congress in October this session will be invaluable to you), we’ll also be introducing you to Student Voice and how you can get involved.  The Union Chair (who looks after Student Voice) will also be attending these session so come along and find out how you can make things better using Student Voice processes.
