What is the election for?

As defined in our constitution, the Students' Association is a democractic membership lead organisation. As such our members get the opportunity every year to elect the student leaders for the following academic year.

Each year we elect a team of Sabbatical Student Officers, a Union Chair, and Conference Delegates. Any student can stand for election, and we will help to guide you through the process.

Sabbatical Officers take a year out from their studies or at the end of their studies to work full time for the benefit of other students. There are four roles: President, VP Education, VP Student Development, and VP Welfare and Wellbeing, and all four roles are paid.  If elected, student officers take up office from Monday 3rd June 2019 to Sunday 31st May 2020, working 35 hours per week with paid annual leave.

The Union Chair is responsible for holding the sabbatical officers to account, and conference delegates attend NUS conferences, these roles are voluntary.  You can find out more about any of these roles by clicking the links below.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact sabina.lawrie@uws.ac.uk

Re-Open Nominations

Re-Open Nominations, or RON is a mechanism which is allowed within the Students' Association's elections. RON is treated as a candidate in the election and in the event that RON wins, the election will be recalled and members will get the chance to nominate other person(s) for the role that was being elected. This means that there can be no uncontested elections within the Students' Association.

RON is only voted for where the electorate (the students) feel that none of the other candidates are suitable.
